Find a Recession Proof City for Life and Career
With all the bad news on the economic front these days, it may seem there are no real bright spots in our country. But maybe so! Would you believe there are a few cities in our nation that are considered “recession-proof”? I know that almost sounds Utopian, but it’s been true of these six shining cities since 1980. They are:
So if you want to live the good, no-economic-downturn life, go West, young man or woman to get your next job.
But wait. I did say there are six cities, didn’t I? Are you ready for this?
- Morgantown, WV
Who knew it would be located in a state that’s in my own Appalachian backyard? And even closer to my dot on the map is the state capital, Charleston, one of the 29 “almost recession-proof” cities. Maybe that’s why they call West Virginia “almost heaven”.
To see more about these six “recession-proof” cities and their “almost” cousins go to this report on my friend Mark Hovind’s website. Here you will also find what criteria these metro areas had to meet for their classifications and the employment by industry in each. They may not be Utopia, but they could offer safe haven in this time of economic downturn if you have skills that fit into one of their industries.

I attended a business meeting in Morgantown, WV a couple of months ago and I remember a local commercial real estate agent, Pete “Pro” Prokopchuk, suggesting to the group to ignore what they were hearing about the downturn in real estate market in the rest of the US. He then let everyone know of all of the great real estate available in the Morgantown area and - whether you were buying or selling - things were looking pretty good. He was concerned that people tuning into the national broadcasts might create a self - fulfilling prophecy.
I also know of several contractors in this area who have talked about how well their businesses are doing.
Reporting from the field…
Go Morgantown, WV!
