I attended a business meeting in Morgantown, WV a couple of months ago and I remember a local commercial real estate agent, Pete "Pro" Prokopchuk, suggesting to the group to ignore what they were hearing about the downturn in real estate market in the rest of the US. He then let everyone know of all of the great real estate available in the Morgantown area and - whether you were buying or selling - things were looking pretty good. He was concerned that people tuning into the national broadcasts might create a self - fulfilling prophecy.

I also know of several contractors in this area who have talked about how well their businesses are doing.

Excellent analogy. A "job" is like a withering plant, while a "career" is like a blooming garden. It's easy to become fixated on our work environment today, while neglecting to focus on opportunities for tomorrow. Complacency dries our psyche, but ambition uplifts. I think it's time to get pruning.
